Preparations to host this year's FIFA Club World Cup kicked off this week as work on creating new playing surfaces at Abu Dhabi's two biggest stadiums got under way. The new pitches are being created at Zayed Sports City Stadium and Mohammed Bin Zayed Stadium, where all eight matches of the competition will be staged between 9th and 19th of December. Meanwhile seven other pitches across Abu Dhabi are being reconstructed or renovated to provide the competing clubs with training facilities. The architects RMJM have confirmed that the Capital Gate Tower next to ADNEC – designed to lean more than any other building on the planet has successfully reached the critical halfway point of its eventual 35 floors and 160 metres. Lifts for Pedestrian bridges
Abu Dhabi Municipality intends to install elevators on several of the pedestrian bridges that have been erected as part of the Salam Street development. The move will help the disabled, children and the elderly, but also aims to encourage safer use of the road - pedestrians frequently brave the traffic to cross the streets in the Tourist Club area. The first phase will see the construction of elevators on two bridges on 10th Street - opposite the Abu Dhabi Mall and near the Meridien Hotel - and by the Khalifa B complex one street away.

The UAE has completed ratification of the statute of the International Renewable Energy Agency IRENA, the first of the 98 member countries to do so.
